Name: Armando "Darwin" Muñoz
Canon: X-Men: First Class
Canon Point: post-Shaw
Age: 27
Appearance: Darwin is a young black man who dresses typically of the early 1960s, wearing a lot of polo shirts and trousers. He is not especially wealthy, but he is well-dressed no matter what.
Inventory: Literally nothing, not even any clothes. Darwin will appear as a pile of ash that reforms itself into a human being, complete with wrist communicator.
Abilities: Darwin's ability has been called "reactive evolution" and "spontaneous adaptive mutation." Basically put, his body changes to be able to withstand his external environment. Put him underwater? He grows gills. Throw him off the roof of a building? He'll bounce as he hits the ground. Hit him with a baseball bat? He grows plate-like armor instantaneously.
Sebastian Shaw sought to kill Darwin by making him swallow a deadly ball of plasma energy, which forced his body to turn itself to metal, then rock, then finally combust into ash. Given his mutation, however, it is only a matter of time before the ash reassembles itself into Darwin.
History: here
Personality: Darwin is personable, easily making friends with the other mutants, regardless of the fact that they're all younger than him. They haven't been together that long when Shaw attacks, but even so he is willing to shield the others from harm and go out of his way to try to stop Angel from leaving. Since his ability means he doesn't have to worry about looking out for himself, it allows him to step up, be brave, and look out for other people instead.
The movie doesn't address the issue of Darwin's family and friends, but since he pretty much drops everything to go to Virginia with Charles and Erik, it can be assumed he either doesn't have any, or that the connections with the ones he does have aren't very strong. In the comics, Darwin is disowned by his family for his mutations, so maybe the same thing happened here.
Darwin handles pressure with a cool head and a brave heart. When Shaw attacks, he physically shields the others from harm, knowing that any physical attacks can't hurt him. When the energy from Alex's attack is about to kill him, he reaches out to Alex as if to say "don't worry, this isn't your fault."
When Charles and Erik tell Darwin he's a mutant, and that there are others like him, it's a relief. He's grown up being able to do these incredible things, but everyone around him who knows or sees just calls him a freak. He embraces it, however, adopting the nickname Darwin to match his evolutionary gifts. That he was calling himself that even before he knew the circumstances of what he was shows that he has the self possession and confidence to appreciate his differences. My guess is, had he not been brought into the mutant cause, he would have gotten involved in the Civil Rights movement of the later sixties.

First Person:
[The video shows a young black man standing on a dock, shirtless.]
Well, time to find out if these high-tech watches are water proof. So far it seems to be as durable as I am. It can take a beating, it can take fire, it can take everything I throw at it.
[He looks out at the water.]
There's only one thing left to try. And besides, [he grins,] I always liked swimming.
[He leaves the video running as he runs off the dock into the water. He dives deep, sitting on the ocean floor for a while rather than surfacing for air. When he moves the camera back to himself, you can see gills have grown on the sides of his face. He grins again, giving the video a thumbs up before cutting the feed.]
Third Person:
The fire inside him hurts. He tries steel, cold steel, but the fire is too hot and bubbles up molten instead. He tries rock, the hard, volcanic kind that's built to withstand heat, but even that's not enough for Alex's kind of power.
Alex. How can he be feeling, watching what he did perverted like this. Shaking with effort, Darwin turns his head to see Alex just... standing there. The others are behind him, crying or calling out, but he can't hear. All he sees is Alex so scared, and he shouldn't be like that, man. He's just a kid. Nobody should have to deal with that sort of hurt.
He reaches out. He can't speak with the fire burning his insides, but he can look at Alex and hope he gets the meaning. "It's okay. I got this. I."
Then things go white, and fall apart.
Anything Else?
Nope!
